Just bought a '70 Mav drag car that has been sitting for 8 or so years, so it's restoration is underway. It has a 10pt cage, frame connectors through the floor tied into the cage, leafs moved inside the frame rails and mini tubbed on a 29.5x10.5W, with Center Line Convo Pros. It's gonna get a 408 Windsor that I have collected most of the parts for, and a manually shifted C4. The car used to get the front wheels a couple feet high with a 347, so it should be a fun ride !

Welcome from another 70 Maverick drag car owner. Sounds like a great
project to bring an old racer back to life.
Mine started out as a B/SM car in 1979 and still has the participant sticker from the 1979 Winternationals in Pomona, CA.
Mine also has a 10point cage with 5gal cell in the trunk. When it raced B/SM in the late 70's/early 80's it had a Boss 302 and 4spd and was turning in the mid to low 10's. It currently has a 408/Powerglide and has turned a 9.801 in the 1/4. It has an old but very effective ladder bar setup and has been tubed to accept 13" tires. I have refreshened the motor (it was dyno'd at 644hp @6800 and 544ftlb of torque @5700) the trans has been refreshened along with the 9" and upgraded to 33spline axles. It did have drums on all fours but I have put disc's in their place.
This is a great forum with years of experience..............send pictures when you get enough posts:Handshake

Evansville, like Tom said, and I work in Hendo. I plan on running at CMP on Saturday, and BG on Sunday, if I can afford to do both. I really like Beacon's track, but CMP is so close that I probably won't drive to Paducah too often.

That`s pretty neat,my car came from Evansville, previous owner was Mike Bush if you know him.I know when I bought mine,Mike said his brother had one he wanted to sell also.I did`nt see the car but it was set up for drag also, had a full halo cage around driver.Mike said he installed it because his brother had rolled another drag car he had & was concerned about his safety.408 is the way to go,it makes these little cars rockets & they are hard to beat if you can drive it.
