I was begining to wonder if there was ever a reason for you to slow down . I hate to sound like a broken record, so just know that whenever you post something I am always in aww even though I havn't said anything .
I am just a 1/2 hour north of Frank. Yesterday, we had mild to moderate rain here, but Frank's area got pounded, and it was "rain train" ... line of storms that just didn't let up.
Today I put a hole in the rear valence I am going to use on the car for the chute mount..... I also drilled the quarter extensions for the trim pieces( I found out that the drivers side quarter extension I have for the spoiler is no good, it had been repaired previously and the whole thing has a bad twist to it and will not bolt up to the quarter correctly - I will need to find a new one because this one is not repairable)..... Then sanded and primed the rear valence, rear spoiler center section, and end cap pieces that are good..... I don't really want to mention this, but I got some more paint mixed this week..... It is closer then anything else has been, but I am still not happy with it..... What a pain in the ass this interior paint is turning out to be..... Here are the parts I sanded and primed(just need to be finish sanded and painted now).....
Today I sanded and prepped the pieces I primed yesterday for paint..... I positioned the car in the shop, jacked up the rear, prepped and masked the lower rear quarters for paint..... Then I painted everything..... Before I leaft I unmasked it..... Here is some pic's before and after unmasking.....
Thanks..... I am sure the color is the same too, they used it in the early 70's on there whole line.....
I got another driver side quarter end cap this week, it has a small crack on the inside edge but it does fit the quarter panel properly..... I wet sanded a couple small drips I had in the lower quarters..... I bolted the spoiler center section to the trunk lid..... The I got the rear valence cleaned up, and installed on the car with new hardware..... I sanded and masked the pass side quarter extension and painted the inside edge satin black so there will not be blue between the trim and the tail light panel..... I also marked up the tag for where the hole needs to be in it for the chute mount before I put the valence on..... I took a ride over to work and bead blasted the replacement driver side end cap I got, and I put the hole in the tag while I was there..... Here is the replacement end cap I got before and after bead blasting..... Here is the pass side quarter extension with the black on the inside edge..... Here is the tag marked up for the hole position and then with the hole in it..... Here is the car with the spoiler center section and valence installed.....
Did you repaint the quarters with a different shade of blue? It looks much closer to the original color. Otherwise, awesome as usual. (I've got zero motivation today)
Hey Frank -- Comets Rock! Looks great as usual. Did u paint the tail panel satin or flat? I can't really tell from the pix. I been trying to decide which direction I will have mine painted. It is flat now but Im almost sure going w/ some kind of satin - I don't like the flat.
It's really cool to see you making the chrome surround trim work with the spoiler. It really works well with the color on the car.
Thanks..... It's old school matte black with a fine texture(kind of between flat and satin)..... It's a PPG lacquer mix specifically for it(I can get you the number later if you want it)..... I really liked the look and thought it would make a nice break between the car color and blacked out panel.....
Today I installed the tag, cleaned up and install the rear marker lights..... I drilled fitted the trim on the driver side quarter extension, then got it in a nice coat of primer..... I received some interior paint I ordered last week, I painted a test panel on Friday and it was very close to the original color..... So I painted the panel under the rear window, It is slightly darker then the test panel but I like the color(it needs to fully dry to make a final decision)..... The nice thing about it being a little darker is my new seats are slightly darker then the originals were..... Here is the back view with the tag installed..... Here is what the marker lights look like both inside and outside..... Here is the quarter extension after priming..... and here is what the new interior color looks like.....
