Just wondering how much space there is between the front of you oil pan, in a 302 car, and the back of your sway bar? Please let me know what sway bar you are running. The oil pan I ordered has the pan level with the front lip of the mounting flange. I want to make sure it will fit without it touching the sway bar. Thanks in advance for the information.
I'd guess he's got a 7/8 inch or 1 inch bar there.. but even it were 1 1/4.. there'd still be plenty of room left before it hit the pan.
The issue I will have is the width of the pan. I know I eill have to knotch the back to clear the lower control arm mounts but I may have to angle the front corners to clear the sway bar.
Moroso 20535 I just received a reply from Moroso and they are telling me that the sump on the pan is 12" wide and not 15.5" like advertised on a few different websites. If this is true then it should fit on the front side with no issues. I will still have to notch the back of the pan to fit between the lower control arm mounts. Do you have any experience with that pan? My engine builder recommended it due to the machined end seal pieces on the pan. Pretty much guaranteed not to leak in the common areas.
I did use this pan(although at the time it was considered a custom pan back in the 70's) on my 64 Comet years ago and it was a very tight fit between the control arms.........I had to do a little grinding to actually get it to clear (on the ends of the control arms). I've never had any issues with the front pan seal leaking...........the rear, yes, and yes. When you have your block at the machine shop (not sure which block you will be using) if it doesn't already have a one piece seal, have the machinist machine for a one piece seal..............this will eliminate any leakage...............and although I don't remember how much HP you are shooting for, just to be safe, I'd have him pin the seal also, just for good measure............because like on mine.......I have seen them walk backwards and with a pin top and bottom they will stay put no mater how much HP/RPM you throw at them......................................IMHO
It is a Dart SHP Block stroked to 363 ci. I can send you the specs on the motor if you would like. We haven't finalized the cam specs yet but the motor is still 3-4 months out. I am going to notch the back of the pan so I know it will fit. The grinding option is gone now with the fresh paint applied.
If it's a Dart block it should already be machined for a one piece seal in the rear..............I think. The idea of pinning the seal is still one that I would do, like I said, I've seen some back off and start leaking...........it's just an added measure of safety..............IMHO
