Ok so I got my Comet about a month ago for 1800 dollars, I only get to work on her weekends (I am currently in the army so I don't have much free time.)
Right now my plan it just to get her in reliable condition and have her look a bit cleaner too. This is when i first brought her home.

Now I am stationed in pretty much the middle of nowhere and I had to drive a few hours to pick it up, the ride back was interesting to say the least, I was told that the car had no power steering but they neglected to inform me the car did in fact have power steering that didn't work. I ended up getting pulled over for suspected dui, anyway i got her home and started sanding
    [IMG]
Right now she is a straight 6 with drums on all 4 corners (this is my planned upgrade) and if anyone has an idea of an inexpensive kit i would be very appreciative. I would go scavenge a local junk yard for some spindles but my job keeps my busy and the closest town to me is 40 miles away.

First i sanded the trunk lid and rear of the car (i sprayed it gloss black with rattle can) I want the car to look decent till i get summer leave and i can get it professionally painted.

The rear bumpers bent and i was missing a piece of trim, well it wasn't really missing it was in the trunk. Someone had the great idea to paint all the trim black so i have been polishing
Last weekend I finally finished sanding the hood down and removing a crap ton of bondo, I primerd it and sprayed it black. And if you noticed the holes in the hood, the last owner had a fake hood scoop I couldnt stand..
I plan to weld those up once I get access to a welder.

Then I did one of the fenders and added the chrome trim and emblem to the nose I was missing.(ignore the little rims one of my tires was bad and my uncle gave these to me for free. I still haven't decided what rims I wanna go with.)

I also replaced all the tierods and idler arm, this weekend i replace the centerlink and remove the old power steering parts. I still have a ton of sanding to do and many months of work left, ill keep this updated regularly and ill be sure to take more pictures.

With the work, that you've had time to do so far, your car already looks much better (y)

Thanks, ive been working on a few interior issues as well, the fuel gauge and speedo didn't work and the wiring was a rats nest. Ive been going through the whole car and rewiring it, solderd and shrink wrapped, added a few new relays and within the next few weeks ill relocate the battery and add a decent fuse box. Oh and I am working on a custom center console.

I had forgotten my favorite pic so far, some trim and a hood emblem!
Also here is a pic of my other baby.

:Welcome:to the board. Car is looking good. Are you sure the hood scoop isn't factory? The factory hood scoop wasn't functional. Looks like you need a Comet grill. The one on the car is a Maverick...

Congrats on the find, it's shaping up nicely... You've no doubt been busy....

The Comet scoop would be far larger and have more bolt holes to hold it in place...

I am positive the scoop wasn't factory, it was tiny and I am pretty sure its the one you can buy at autozone, and yea I am either gonna make my own grill or find a comet one because I hate how this one looks. Ill be sure to do some writeups when I start on my dash and do a bit more wiring. Ima go take a picture of the scoop to show you what I mean on my lunch today, thanks for the kind words guys.
And yea im really happy with the price I got her for, I had been looking for a 72 comet for 3 years now but every time I would find one something would fall through. I am just happy to have my dream car and I love spending my days off working on her.

Looks like you are making good progress! If you change back to the Comet grille, it looks like you'll need to find a Comet gravel pan and front bumper, as the ones currently on your car appear to be "Maverick" pieces.

Good luck with your build! I look forward to watching!!

Oh, and :Welcome: from Atlantic Canada!!

Wow i didnt even know they where different pieces! I looked online and your totally right! Awww... I like my bumper looks like I am gonna make a custom grille, I am still trying to figure out what i want to do about the hood, there was a ton of bondo on it and a pretty obvious dent in the front. Any ideas?

It would be easier to find a Maverick hood, and bolt that on.

Especially if the current hood on your car is questionable (bondo). :yup:

I know.. I just love the trim and hood emblem for the comet. I still want the hood emblem so I guess ill figure a way to incorporate it into the grill.
I just told my wife I am getting a different hood... she didn't find it amusing that i spent the last 3 weeks looking for that hood trim only to not even use it.
