It's only blowing cold. And if anyone has been out in this horrible cold, you'll know driving this car is near unbearable right now. I NEED heat. I got the mechanic to put in a new heater core. I thought I felt heat at one point, but I drove home today and nearly froze. I had it set to heat, and to warm, and the fan on. Blowing nothing but cold. Help???
thermostat problem?? feel the hoses going to firewall and see if they are hot that gives a clue if water is circulating
Sounds like u don't have any heat going thru the heat core! May have heater hoses backwards! I wud take it back to the mechanic and see what they come up with. Did they replace the thermostat?
They just replaced heater core. And I have no money after paying for that. And I really don't want to have to take dash apart again. haha. Pain in the butt. How do I know if the hoses are ran backwards? I know coolant is going through. I did not replace thermostat...I could probably do that?
Heater core is dumb, will work fine with hoses in either direction... If you have A/C probably it's a vacuum issue, without the blend door is stuck or mis-adjusted...
Are you sure this "mechanic" knows what he's doing?? Does your car have Air Conditioning? If so, the heater valve could be stuck, or in need of replacement, or as mentioned previously, a vacuum line could be disconnected. If not, the thermostat could be stuck open. If you don't have a temp gauge, you would not know if the engine is coming up to operating temperature or not.
Water valve not getting vacuum or stuck in the closed position. Get the car well warmed up and turn heater on. See if hose is hot on both sides of the water valve. If not, use hands to push or pull the lever to open the valve. If it moves, hose should now get hot and you should have heat. Wire it to the open position. If you cannot move to the open position, valve is stuck. Remove it and replace section with new hose or copper pipe in place of valve. Micah Also, check your heater control cable under the dash to see if it is connected and moving as you select the dash control from cold to hot.
Since you paid money to "they" ---- and "they" gave you a car without heat after supposedly fixing it ---- take it back and demand it be fixed right. And then find another mechanic because this one is at best incompetent but more likely just a rip off guy. When I worked in a repair shop, some of the guys would definitely take advantage of people that had no clue about cars. They would do stuff like rub their hands on the dusty distributor cap then tell the customer they had a loose breaker plate and needed to repair it. Would add an extra 1/2 or full hour for bogus stuff all the time. Caveat Emptor ........... Oh, as the others said - heater control valve or vacuum doors not hooked up or working right would be my guess too.
