Got a few things done this week. Took the heads apart to inspect them. I didn't like what I found, LOL. Took out the rods, pistons and crank. Found one pretty bad piston. Below are the pics.
Dropped the block off at the machine shop today. I have two weeks to decided to do 306, 331, or a 347. That's hopefully if the block isn't cracked anywhere. I didn't see any visually, but magnaflux will tell the true story. Here is a pic:
I've been working on the whole project three years now. I am glad to finally be in this position though. It has come a long way. I figure it can sit another 4-6 months while this engine build comes along, and the final touches come into play.
We only live 10 minutes from the machine shop and never drove above 25, lol. We have tons of ratchet straps. On the ride back from the shop though, it will be babied, lol.
lol.. I was going to tease you about those too.. but I stopped myself for once. Of course straps would be best.. not to mention "legal".. but an old tire works just about as good as anything when you're in a pinch. You do know what that guide/retainer/lock damage was caused from don't you? vrooooooommmm... vrrrooooommmmmm!!!!.. says the little stock valve springs.
Got the v8 motor mounts put in this weekend. I also picked up the new 347'd block from the machine shop today.
Very nice. I got lucky with my motor I pulled from my Foxbody -- Yella Tera heads shaved, ported to 61cc heads. What did it cost you to punch out the 302 to 347? Also can you use the same heads?
