I have a warm 302 in a 53 ford car. it is time for exhaust. I run flow master 40's on my maverick and love them but for the 53 I am wanting something different. I am looking for a quiet, aggressive sounding (not new car sound) exhaust. I want this car to sound aggressive at idol and to be much quieter than the maverick at speed. this car will never see the track, it is no race car and as such the car can run almost anything. space is not an issue so feel free to weigh in. p.s. purple hornies ant gonna happen!
Flow master has a drown sound coming out sides not good at top speed/crusing I switched to dyna max with h pipe. Quiet idl mild at mid range head turner.Others have magna flo don't know.
ha, out here you can do what ever you like. i ran a v-twin with straight pipes for years with no one even batting an eye. I work in a small village where people do not licence there cars because there are no police anyway. yea. glass packs are ok. louder than what I want this car to be though.
Definitely glasspaks. Awesome sound, low rpms, or high. I never considered them to sound loud, just low deep gutteral growl!
Does anyone still make "Hemi" mufflers? Back in the day (70's-80's) everyone ran either Turbo, Hemi or glasspack mufflers. The turbos had a deep, throaty sound at idle and at speed, Hemis had a crisp, metallic "tinkle" that really accentuated a lopey cam at idle without being too loud, and had a clean, powerful but quieter sound at speed. and of course, glasspacks were exactly what people wanted them to be, loud and obvious. I guess you could say the "Hemi" mufflers were more like factory muscle car mufflers.....maybe with just a bit more attitude. Seems a lot more complicated these days with all the new high-tech muffler and exhaust tecnology, but the upside is that you can pretty much custom tune your "sound". Maybe some members can post some vids or sound-bytes of their car's exhaust music
I had dynomax ultaflow mufflers on my car, they sounded great and are one of the best flowing mufflers as far as i know.
On an old car glasspacks sound good. Dosnt matter what brand, purple hornies, cherry bombs, thrush, etc. I ran the Smithy's glass packs on my 50 coupe with a flathead V8 because they were era correct. and the loudness of a glasspack depends on the length, you can get them from 6" to 30" probably.
