Help

I can't get my maverick to start. We got it started by putting gas in the carb at first. We replaced the fuel filter and pump. Also the ignition coil. Now it cranks but won't turn over.

@Mustang1989 how do I fix it if I flooded it? also I will check the wires in the morning

Here's a you tube video on starting a carbureted engine. He walks you through the normal starting and flood start procedures in the first part of the video. Although he doesn't demonstrate flood starting he does explain it fairly well and it's on a Ford V-8 in a Mustang which is going to be similar to yours.

I don't want to overlook the fact that you still may not have any fire though. Make sure you've got spark coming from the coil while cranking before you go through with the flood starting.

Did you get the car running?

yeah my maverick is a project but will be turned into a daily driver. this is what we have done so far. This is about my 1975 ford maverick 250 straight 6. I bought it from my friend for $400 who said it sat for 8-10 years but ran when parked. When we first got it we started it by putting fuel in the carb. Now it cranks but won't fire up and doesn't have spark by the coil. So we replaced the coil, coil connector, voltage regulator, starter solenoid, fuel filter, fuel pump, and ignition control module and it still won't start. The battery is fully charged and the spark plugs are good. I am just so confused. Any help would be much appreciated. P.S the parts we replaced were for the different issues we found. We have a guy thats said he can help me out after christmas. He has been a mechanic for 46 years.

@JosephBrand Ever pull a spark plug hook it up to the wire and make sure it's got spark between the plug and electrode?
did you replace or check your ECM? My 74 Grabber has an ignition control module sometimes called an ECM (electronic control module). If that burned out you'll need to replace it. Not hard or expensive. Also if the wire coming off the distributor has a "nick" in it and it's grounding to the distributor or anywhere across the engine, it won't start. That happened to my 48's Willys.

@JosephBrand Also if yours is a 75 it will have the DuraSpark II ignition system

@JosephBrand Update: Sorry I missed where you said you replaced the ICM/ECM. I'd still check for grounding from the distributor wire. Also the engine ground strap. Also as a DuraSpark II it's magnetic coil type so the distributor itself could be bad.
Start simple, pull a plug, put its wire back on turn it over and see if you see spark. Then put it down in a tea spoon of gas and crank it and see if the spark is strong enough to light gas in the spoon.
