As i remember it was just a bolt in.But that was about 8 years ago.
I used one from a 1976 Lincoln.MarkIV
The gear the lock goes into is a tooth off.Reset the gear.

After re reading your first post ,I think your problem is at the lower ball joint.If you have tightened it enough to crush the rubber it is wrong....
