Hello, My coil springs or shocks keep squeaking. They used to only make sounds when moisture would get on them. I thought I could solve this by replacing the shocks, but now they squeak all the time and this sound really annoys me! Should I replace the coils or could I have possibly put the shocks on wrong somehow? Any help appreciated!
Its your upper control arm bushings making the noise. This is a common problem with these cars. They either need to be greased or replaced probaly both. It is hard to install 90 degree grease zerks in the bushing while installed in the car. A special kit sold by autokrafters for this but some can install it and some cannot while the control arm is on the car. I personally installed their kit but when I had the upper control arms out and was replacing the bushings
now would be a good time to change the "spring perches". you can get them from a mustang parts store for a '73 mustang. you can also get the 90 degree fittings from a mustang parts store. i put them on all my mavs.except the mav. terry, "stole" from me. ..frank...
You should also make sure that your idler arm is in good shape. I had a terrible dull squeaking from the front of the PoliceMav. After I rebuilt the front end as the ball joints and numerous bushings were bad, I discovered that the idler was shot also. I thought that it was the coil isolators that sit on top of the coils. The shocks were new so I knew that they were good. I replaced the idler arm and the front end has been quiet ever since. Make sure of what is really bad before you buy what you might not need yet. Now, I'm not saying that replacing more than is bad is a bad thing....but you could save yourself some time and $$ right now.
"coil isolators"...yes, it will squeek if they are bad also..."mustang parts store" '73 mustang...frank...
