I've been looking for a turn signal assembly for my 71 comet for some time now. the one currently installed in my column is fried and niether my turn signals or my hazards work. any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Yes, mine had a busted cam in it, took me quite a while to find one, but fan2488 found one on ebay for me and I won it. Trying to rebuild it or replace with new parts is nearly impossible.
I am currently parting a 72 Comet and from what research I have done on here it should be the same, everything looks good on this one and is tight but cant guarentee it works. If you are interested I will pull it and sell it to you for $20.00 plus shipping
thanks for all the replies- i have a couple questions. is it a complete and turn signal assembly and not just the switch. also, will a 72 turn signal assembly be compatible with a 71?
Yes it will be the complete assembly from the turn signal cam to the plug that plugs it into wiring harness, the wires go down under the steering column, you just pull your old one out and install this one. I did some research and the part numbers for 71-72 are the same but cant find info now to show you I will take it out and send you a pic of the connector, that would be the only part that would be different. New complete assemblies were something like $90.00, if you wiring is fried a cam will do you no good
Shee-Mar is the company that makes the replacement turn signal assemblys, they bought all of ford, general motors, and chrystlers old tooling and they reproduce them, they are also an OEM manufacturer for turn signal assemblys. But be warned for the 70-72 they run about $80-$100 depending on where you find it for our cars. The whole assembly is the Shee-Mar SM44F, I replaced the one in my 72 maverick column a couple months ago. http://www.ebay.com/itm/70-72-COMET-GALAXIE-FAIRLANE-MONTEGO-TURN-SIGNAL-SWITCH-/260391210093 It is a little more expensive then the later ones because ford only used that turn signal cam setup for 3 years and they used the 73 and up turn signal into the 80's. I have had to post this several times...wonder if we can get that part number stickied lol
You need a turn signal cam? Might check on this one........don't be afraid to call them and ask them about it, great company I deal with them all the time. http://www.carparts.com/results/?N=...94967037+4294967132+4294966826&Nr=universal:0
Here are a couple pics of the turn signal switch assembly pulled from a 72 Comet, should work for you application. Takes about 10 minutes to install once you have the steering wheel off
