The blue Maverick probably belonged to a Production Assistant working on the show. A lot of times, TV shows that have a lot of outdoor shoots round up all the cars belonging to crew and extras. I was chasing acting work for 15 years. My Comet made it into shots a couple times that way. Unfortunately, my car that made it into the most shots was a white Taurus. Very hard to pick that thing out of a group in a shot. I even got my grandparents Mustard Yellow with a Brown Vinyl Top 1976 LTD into a film as a paid background vehicle. The instructions were no white, black or red cars, and that turned out to be the only choice. It didn't make much in the final cuts. I think it still stood out too much.

Continuity in TV and Film took a step up over the years. If you look hard at the chase in Bullit, the Charger loses 6 hubcaps, and the chase cars pass the same VW Bug several times.
