hi guys,went and got my spindles from a 77 granada,for the swap to my 70.i checked out charlie pings sight,and still a little confused.(easy to do)my mav has no power brakes but the 77 granada had them.should i get a m/c for a mav that came with manual disc or a m/c for a manual disc granada?i am worried about the rod length on the brake pedal.also is the prop.really needed from the power brake granada or can i use the one from the manual drum mav?thanks guys for any help or advice...chuck.
chuck, i used the mav. manual drum master cyl. and the drum prop. valve on my 71' and 73' mine do great. some say to change the valve but so far no prob. here. jmo...frank...:bananaman :bananaman L.T.N.G.
The Granada spindles are the same part number as the Mav's at least for the 76 granada anyway, Ive never seen a granada with manual discs but im sure they had them, I would go with the mav's M/C there easy enough to get at Napa, Autozone and other places im sure... Heck while your at it i would pick up a power booster as well but if you do that just make sure you get a pedal from a mav with power brakes ....
kept the drum master cyl. did not change the prop valve. no problems here. stops on a dime. not power brakes either. just keep an eye on the fluid levels in the m/c. don't forget to get the tierod ends from the granada.
I've been running my stock drum set up for more years than I can remember with disc on the front. Never had a problem.
thanks guys for all the input,thats what i was looking for!one more question though,charlies tech article says that if your mav is power steering you may have to go with granada tie rod ends,but if your mav is manual steer,you do not have to change them.is there an actual difference?,and has anyone had to do this.?scott is your mav power steering?dennis,your using the orig.drum m/c and prop.valve,and your sprint is manual steer? thanks everyone...chuck.
Why would you have to change tie rod ends? My disc set-up came from a '75 Maverick (mine is a '73 with power steering) and I didn't have to change tie-rod ends. If the spindles on the Granada are the same part number, I don't see what the difference would be...
The tie rod ends for the disc brake spindles (all Mavs/Comets/Granada w/ disc) are different than the ones on the drum brake cars. The taper angles are different, and in order to "mesh" and seat correctly with the disc spindle the drum tie rod ends must be changed to disc brake ones. -Corbin
tl,your guess is as good as mine.i'm just trying to find out what works the best and safest.i think for now i'm going to go with my 4 drum m/c and prop.valve.seems to be working fine for everyone else.was your donor car power brakes?and was/is your mav power brakes?and what m/c did you use?thanks..chuck.

Hey Chuck, As far as the master cylinder and prop valve go, I would try what Dennis did (keep your stock Mav master cylinder and prop valve) first if you are staying with the manual brakes. It's a lot less hassle, and if it works correctly you might as well keep it that way. Each car is a little different, so check out how they work before doing too much driving. If you are switching to power brakes, as I did, I changed the prop valve to the power disc brake one at the same time. It wasn't too much of a hassle because I already had everything else ripped out.
