I have a question on what type of Exhaust System to use omy 77 2 dr maverick with a 302 engine in it. When i went to put the exhaust/mufflers on my car the guy form the muffler shop put the two pies that connect to one right under the transmission so now there is no way of getting to the transmission without cutting the pipes which i have already done becasue of the rebuild i had to do:49: . What can i use to solve this problem? I seen a mav with the first type of exhaust but they didn't have the inlet pipe:huh:. If anybody knows pleas let me casue my car didn't have any exhaust.

Would some thing like the one on the attached files form a 69 dual exhsauts mustang or a 70 mustang work:confused: . Some please let me know if you know anything
    Thank you

So far everyone on here has said that no Mustang exhaust system will work on a Mav. I think the front half back to the mufflers might work (with a few mods) but the tail pipes will have to be custom bent. The second system with tranverse muffler will not fit ,no room for muffler in front of gas tank. BTW if you use a crossover you would still need to drop system to remove trans. A good shop can build a good fitting sys. for what it would cost to use Must. pipes.

IF you live in a state/county where they have emmissions testing for inspections,
they may insist on you having a c-converter.

I'd check before I spent a dime on it.

I would just have a new system made up without the H-pipe. Much easier to work around and seems like it would be cheaper too IF you do not still have the old system. What happened to the rest of the exhaust system when you cut the H-Pipe? Why not use it?? You said that the tranny has been rebuilt, so you probably won't need to drop it again any time soon. I'd put the old system back on and have a new H pipe welded to replace the one you had to cut. That would REALLY cut the cost of whole process. Just my :twocents: Good Luck!! Preston

Why not weld flanges in so you can unbolt later if needed? Seems like a simple fix to me that would be easy to remove when needed.

I might buy a 1971 maverick but it needs a new exhaust system and i was hoping somebody could tell me where to buy that and about how much it will cost

    H pipe

Use the H pipe, get a little more torque out of your engine! They do help, (and mellow the loud pipes,to keep the noise police off your azz!)
If your putting new exhaust on anyway, use a little ant-seize on all bolts and pipe joints, then cut your H pipe in the middle and use a stainless steel band clamp on the H- pipe between the two sides if you have tranny problems and are going to fix it anyway, whats a few more min. worth of work to drop each side of the exhaust out of the way?

Everyone says to run an H or X, but for cost, simplicity, and to enable me to take off the exhaust one side at a time, I went true dual.

Back when I had the GT40P heads and I had to jack up the motor and remove the header to get to the spark plugs, I would just drop one whole side of the exhaust first.

Not sure how much the H/X is good for, but unless you are a full-on racer, I doubt you need the extra 3 hp and 5 ft/lbs torque.

Fan2488 used a Mustang kit on his car and IIRC he said it went on fine from headers to mufflers, and he had to cut and bend to get it over his axles correctly.

Here is mine...see how I can just pop off one whole side and move it out of the way? With an H/X, you would have to move the entire exhaust system as one piece. Also, I would guess an H/X would be more clutter near the transmission when you are dropping the fluid and filter:huh:
