Well got the car to work finally this week. Managed to squeeze in a couple of hours work. First job was install the new KYB's on the back. Its been getting a bit bouncy. I really love these Southern body cars. The top and bottom shock nuts spun of by hand once cracked loose. You Southern guys have no idea what a joy it is for us up here to work on a corrosion free car. The shocks went in without a hitch and it drives better than ever. Much stiffer. I think I may do the front and rear sway bar kit in the future. Also had a broken exhaust hanger. Caught it just in time. Had one shipped over and that was solved. Cleaned some of the trunk up. I have a spray bomb of Grabber Blue to do what I want with the trunk. Pulled the back seat and painted the cross webs. The trunk looks better already. Next to finish the hinge supports and inside the tail lamp panel. All in all a good few hours.
Sounds like a productive day! I have mine stripped and have been re-doing a few bad places in the paint. Been working on a dent in the drivers door that I somehow missed before, or it got dented in a parking lot somewhere, don't know. Temps here today were 98-99, with a heat index of 105-110. Didn't take long to work up a good sweat, and you couldn't stay at it very long at a time. Was so hot that body filler would harden just about as soon as you spread it! Needed a skim coat to cover a few hammer pecks, darn safety guard beams! Right in the way of where I needed to bump the dent out!
The weather up here has been crazy hot the past few weeks. Body shop is having a tough go with the water based paint in this humidity. Temps in the high 30's and low 40's with humidity. Been tough turning wrench at work. Lots of water and Gatorade. Dont really feel like working on the car at home after work. Just grab a beer and flop in the pool.
This southern guy does. Though not originally southern. I started working on cars in Mass and my Comet is from NH. When I moved to Texas and started working on cars I decided never to leave. Had never even thought it was possible an exhaust manifold bolt could be loosened AND be reused.
