This had to be the most suck experience yet on this car project :16suspect but I got them in. The hooker headers fit with the 4r70w (just needed to bend them out a bit on both sides), borgeson power gear box, and thunderbird sc starter. Did the passenger side first with the car jacked up high. Had to pull the idler arm off and away to slide them up then re install once I had them past the tight spots. The driverside was the nightmare hands down. Only way up and around the 4r70w and gear box was to jack the motor up and over. Took out the driverside engine bolt leaving the passenger side. The jack tilted the engine up and over enough to side the header in. Then it took forever to feed the bolts into the threads correctly. (almost stripped out the firewall side one). Anyway headers look like a go with 4r70w and borgeson
My favorite part is when you hear the headers hitting the coil towers on startup. That's a sound that always makes me cringe. It's ok, they always seem to "clearance" themselves after a bit. That's a good thing, right?
Sounds like the same way it is to install 6102's on a early Falcon. Imagine if you you also had to thread a z-bar through the tubes at the same time.
My answer to that dilemma would be a cable clutch. I'm not patient enough to thread a zbar through those headers. I've got about a 30 minute window before I break out the BF hammer.
A cable ain't goinna work with a Borg and Beck clutch. It will stretch or break the first day of use. Hydraulic throwout bearing would be a better choice. A diaphram clutch can't grip high hp too long before it slips and starts glazing the pressure plate and trash the clutch. Been down that road before.
Then you're using the wrong diaphram clutch set. Centerforce dual friction set WILL work. I went thru two HD stock sets before biting the bullet and shelling out the $350 for the C/F setup for my 331. That set lasted 6 years in my V8 Ranger behind two different motors. It still had plenty of life left in it when I swapped the Toploader out before selling the Ranger with a C-4 in it. And the Ranger outweighed my Comet by a thousand pounds.
