Hi Folks, I am new to the forum and just wanted to ask a question regarding building a Maverick with a Boss 302 engine. I will try to paint the picture. I have been collecting Boss 302 parts for years and I finally have everything that I need. I have also collected many Trans Am parts that I intend to use. This includes a IR 2x4 dominator intake set-up with offset distributor and the Cross Boss set-up. Rather than building a typical Boss Mustang I was thinking of building a Trans Am Boss 302 maverick. Now for my big question. Can anyone please tell me whether a Boss 302 with fit within the stock shock towers of a Maverick (I am thinking 70 or 71)?? I don't really want to hack-up the engine compartment. Appreciate your help on this question. Regards, Dan
That would be a sweet build. Im sure somebody has done the Boss heads or Cleveland heads and can tell ya what to do for sure. Ive read that a cleveland will fit without cutting so Im sure you could get away with it if you do custom headers. Maybe you could just notch the shoch towers. Do a search on that and see what others have done to fit their 351w swap.
Since the 302 has a shorter deck than the 351 Cleveland, you may not have to do anything with the towers for room but...The headers are going to be interesting to say the least. That cross boss set up will look killer on a mav...
I've seen at least 4 Boss Swaps on here without touching the towers...Someone makes Swap headers for them. You should use the Search feature to get you the info you need
I'd love to know who makes headers for this as I have been considering this swap. However, if you do it, don't be scared to wind the bitch to 7500! You're not gonna make **** for power until at least 3500-4000.
Super Stock & Drag Illustrated did an article in 1971, the FEB issue. i also have scans from another article let me look for them.
Thanks for all the info and pictures guys.......Very much appreciated. Based on all your feedback I am defiantly going to persue this build. Also some very good tips on the headers. Also to answer superlead76, yes the heads are factory 4V Boss 302. Regards, Dan
