Hi all; I am having a problem with my stereo in the Mav. When the car is running or the key is in the run position, the speakers crackle and pop and the stereo cuts out. It also does this with the cd in the slot, and the antenna removed, so the antenna is not causing the problem. This does not happen with the key in the accessory position. I have gone over all the wiring, and replaced the stereo with one like it, and the problem still persists. Hope the alt. isn't going out. I have checked the grounds and replaced the negative battery cable, still with no luck. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Not fun to cruise with no tunes!!!!!!! Earl
I had the same problem a long time ago. It was the alternator. I also added an extra ground to the engine just to be safe. Could be that one of your speakers are grounding out also. Are you running amps? Amps will require a bigger battery also. Hope that helps u figure something out.
Stingrayiii; no, no amps....not yet. The alt is a 100amp 3 wire unit from a Ford F350 pickup truck, and it seems to be charging ok. But, that doesn't mean it is putting out clean power. I'll have it checked. Thanks for the help. Earl
Where is your headunit grounded to? What brand (model would be helpful to) is the stereo? How many speakers are hooked up to the stereo? (although I doubt you pushed the internal amp to an unstable ohm load)
Checking all the vehicle grounds is probably the place to start, especially the dash. I had a 65 Mustang that the left turn signal started feeding back through the stereo. :16suspect
Thanks for the suggestions. The head unit is a Pioneer, about 5yrs old, and has always been reliable. I'll look over the grounds again, and remake them all. Thanks again,
