I doubt the 85 pump's gasket flanges match the 65 timing cover. If it does, it will work, but the cooling will be far less than optimal due to the corners the coolant has to make to go into the ports in the timing cover. The 289's used two different timing covers too. One will work (though less than optimal as I posted above) the other will not. The 289's accesory bolt holes in the heads are different from the 85 motors too. It generally not a good idea to mix accessory parts on these motors. One other thing is the 289's pulley offset on the balancer is not the same as the 85's pulleys. And the 85's balancer will not work on the 289 because of the difference in imbalance (28 vs 50 oz) You would need to use a 1970 to 1980 balancer to use the 85's pulleys on the 289

The 289 pumps have the inlet on the passenger side and the timing cover has a cast-in timing pointer on the driver's side. New pumps have the inlet on the driver's side and, IIRC, would hit the cast-in timing pointer.

The timing pointer on the cover that that pump will fit is nothing but a nub. The pump will clear that pointer if it fits the timing cover.
