This is my car with the three leaf springs I purchased from Auto Krafters five years ago. Fifteen inch rear wheels with 60 series drag radials and standard shocks. The car rides great for an old Comet!
In response to your question; no I do not believe they will settle, at least not to the amount you would require.
That's weird, my general springs settled 2 inches. I hated them when I put them on. They have two inches of clearance now. 255/60/15 tire...
Years ago I had a Plymouth Duster with leaf springs - I ran air shocks until one went through the trunk floor - I got rid of them and had the leafs re-arched so the back didn't sag anymore - with that being said, is it possible to have some of the arch of a new set of leafs removed by a spring shop? Just the opposite of what I needed done.
What I don't understand is that these springs are supposed to be stock replacement. I seriously doubt the car sat this high when it was new. Maybe next winter I'll store the car with a bunch of weights in the trunk and see if that does anything.
Wow, that's insane. Mine aren't that high (although higher than I like). It's pretty obvious that the were incorrectly arched. Kind'a makes me not too thrilled with ESPO.
Larry, do you have any pictures of how yours is sitting? Interested to see how high it is. I bought the Laurel Mountain 4-leafs, but don't have a rear end on them yet.
I still haven't gotten a new digital camera to replace the one that got broken, and my cell phone is one of those pre-paid types (no camera). I have been intending to have a friend take some pics. I don't drive the car during the winter, but the weather is starting to warm up, so I took the opportunity to install the new springs. It basically sits like that red Maverick on this thread.
heres my ride height. I think its perfect BUT it has the original leaf springs and I think theyre a little too soft like they lost their strength to keep stiff the tires rub quite a bit on my 72 comet but not on my sons 71 maverick with original springs I want to get new leafs but Im afraid on this issue I need to drop the front end a hair but I like not having to avoid speed bumps or have to go through a big effort to go over them or go into parking lots. the way it sets the long tube headers rarely ever hit or rub but the back tires rub regularly even after rolling the lip
This is exactly why I just want to get some Econoline springs and just mess with them until I hit the height I want.
Here's a thought, how about keeping the new main leaf and reusing the intermediate leafs?? Or maybe just the orig center leaf??
Here's how my Laurel Mountain 4-leafs makes mine sit. I measured before and after and got 1-1/2" lift. I had 205 x 15's up front and 235's on back when the pic was taken
