I got a quote from a shop in my area for $314 and that's with me providing the gasket. They said the glass is expensive. I called a few other shops and they said they wouldn't do it because the car is older and they can't give me a warranty. What have others paid, is that a reasonable price?

Seems a little high. But everything is a little more expensive in california compared to here.

I was telling Bryant, I paid $150 to have the windshield replaced on my Hummer and they came to the house and did it . . . with a smile! :)

I was quoted $260 for a new Pinto windshield when I inquired about it - that was the price for JUST the windshield, so I am not sure your quote is that far off. I am in Texas, regionally not sure how much it makes a difference.

What you have to consider, is the time to replace a new car windsheild, compared to replacing and old car windsheild, is a lot less.
Old cars take time, that gasket is alot of work to install, my glass guy took almost 2 hours before he was happy with it, new cars are glue and go.
If they have no experience with that style gasket, and older cars, find someone else.

here in Monterrey Mexico, they make the winshield glasses, heres a factory, the maverick windshield costs like 80-85 dlls installed. but you need to bring your gasket. if you live in california, maybe in tijuana you can find a Mexican Glass cheaper. they good quality, original looking, excelent, the same.

To quote myself from an earlier thread:
Just get a new gasket and a set of clips to have ready. I dont think 314 is to bad, its a little more than I paid.

Also with our cars they have to be careful with the trim and clips. The new stuff is all rubber and sometimes part of the glass.
Get someone with experience. Last thing you want is your trim or paint messed up.

Do it yourself it's really not hard at all most ford manuals explain it in detail. I have never paid anyone to install my classic car glass to me it's a piece of cake but I do own a restoration business and be doing it for 25 years. PM me if you need instructions ................Brian.

the clips you guys referring to are the little things holding the molding in place right?
