Hello all, this young guy is in need of knowledge again. My 72 comet with an 80s 5.0 is coming along nicely, but my 74 mav with the 250 is in need of help...

I pulled it all out to do gaskets and paint and thought while it's out I might as well do some upgrades. I have already done an HEI distributor and shortys.

I'm wanting to do some timing, head work, cam, and a 2 bbl. I found a cam, it's the H-264-8-B from Clay Smith. I have a stock 2bbl from an 78 302 I could use. And what kind of head work would be recommended? I know the newer head gaskets are thicker, I read someone milling .045. I already read the earlier 70 and 71 had better timing than 74

I know some will say do a v8 swap but I really like the simplicity and uniqueness from the 6. And it's the original engine and trans with 63k miles

Any help/insight/knowledge or experience is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Put a performance curve in that distributor and get a wideband to tune the afr.

Is the curve more advance at higher rpm?

On my 250 I have mechanical advance, 32*, all in at 3000 rpm. 29* at 1500 rpm

Me too. I'm now curious about its meaning.
