This thread was created with the intentions of people comparing their VIN of their maverick/comet to others around you. Three things will decide how "close" one car is to another; Year, Assembly Plant, and Sequence number.

For those who dont know, the year is depicted by the first digit of your vin, the assembly plant by the second, and the last six digits of your vin is your car's individual number for that model year/at that assembly plant.

I got the idea from this thread:
    http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?p=626475#post626475
    from posts 19, 20 & 21

"my" three cars that i plan to keep have the following VIN's.... so if your car was built at the same assembly plant as mine, in the same year, then check your last 6 and see how close you are!

    1971 2dr: 1K91F229142
    1973 4dr: 3K92F156639

BTW, being the keeper of the '73 Grabber registry i have only found 2 vin's that were "close" but they were built at different assembly plants....

one was submitted by Craig Selvey, vin: 3F93F106480
the other by Dave Boyer, vin: 3K93F106473

I love this idea. Here are some of my VIN's:

    '69.5 - 0X91T167193
    '72 beater - 2K91T146486
    '73 2 door - 3X91L316890
    '73 4 door - 3X92L100945
    '73 4 door - 3K92L160713
    '74 Grabber - 4W93L159085

I don't recall off the top of my head what either of my '76 parts cars or my '72 Grabber's VIN is. I'll check this weekend.

Koopstamaverick on here has a '69.5 that's only 26 cars apart from mine. My VIN ends in 167193, and his ends in 167167, both St. Thomas cars, and they were both buck tagged on the same day!

They start off at 100001 at each plant. Would love to see if anyone can beat my 100945 VIN, regardless of model year. Only other I know of lower, belongs to the member maverickdvm, who has a '69.5 with the VIN ending in 100009!! Probably the earliest Maverick in existence. Would also love to see the highest VIN, Yellow75's 398474 is going to be hard to beat.

Okay, see if anybody can beat this:
    71 Grabber - 1K93F183792
    71 Grabber - 1K93F183797

I own both of these cars. The 1st one I bought in 1974, 2nd one 30 years later. Both factory v8 cars. The 1st one Grabber green, 2nd one is my Grabber blue one. Being that these sequence numbers were used for all Ford cars there is a good possibility these two cars were back to back on the assembly line...definitely very close if not. :)

VIN numbers were not back to back on the assembly line. When a car was ordered, it was assigned a VIN number. Very possible they could have been days and even weeks apart on the assembly line.

The vin numbers in cars, don't necessarily mean they came off the line in that order, Kevin Marti and Legendary Ford's magazine have both written articles on vin's and how they are structured.

Either way, its still pretty cool to get 2 cars one digit apart even if they are manufactured at different times :p
