I'm wanting to replace a broken emergency brake and need to remove one from a donor car. I unbolted everything, got the cable free from the car, but the cable goes thru the firewall and I'm not sure if I have to somewhow disconnect the cable from the rod of the emergency so it will then feed thru the firewall. Anyone done this before here? Thanks
Do you have the Emergency handle or pedal? If you have the handle, you can use a small screwdriver to pry/release the ratchet tooth away from the rod (you'll see it just below the handle on the underside of the housing/rod) and then slide the handle all the way in. This will allow you to remove the "ball" end of the cable from the E-brake handle and then you can remove/replace the assembly. I'm sure others will chime in and post pictures that would help........ Forgot to mention, remove the "wheel" (pull the cotter/hair pin, pin and then wheel will come off) then you can remove the "ball" end of the cable and the assembly will be freed. David
I have the pull handle. I think this makes sense, I'll go and try this later today. Thanks for the info.
One needs to rotate the handle in order to get the "ball" out of the rod. Why mess with a used cable.....new repops are readily available.
