I have an all original 1974 maverick with 46,000 miles. The only thing I added was rear 6x9's because the car originally didn't have any. I am torn between installing a modern Alpine stereo I currently have or getting one of the Retrosound stereos. I have a stock radio in the car and have hooked up one of those cheap mini amps for my ipod but since I don't have any extra bass/treble settings it just doesn't have the sound I'm looking for. It works but looking for a richer sound.
unless you plan to not drive your car ever again and store it in a bubble for MAYBE another 40 years it isnt going to be worth anything more than it is now. it sounds like you have a nice driver car with low mileage. if you like the look of the stock radio get a retro fit after market radio or just a little later model amfm 2 nobber radio. otherwise make it what you want if you want a detachable face cd player or even one of those in dash cd/dvd players go for it its your car make it your own it will never fetch what the higher end muscle cars bring even if its the proven last known new old stock never driven 0 mile maverick
My car was radio delete and I looked at that plate for 5 years as I drove around not wanting to disturb the original look of my 15,000 mile car. I finally got to the point it was my car and I should make it the way I wanted it! Found another chopped up radio delete plate from the boneyard and cut it into a DIN for new style radio. Just keeping all the original parts if I ever want to put it back.
When my nephew jumped into my Comet for the first time, around 2001, he exclaimed "Wow... a VINTAGE Alpine stereo!" ... that stung a little, but it was from 1992, so that would be from when he was 10. AM/FM/Cassette, and it is staying there. Gotta be able to play those cassettes some where, and this car is meant to take me back in time anyway. One of the main reasons why I picked this particular deck is that it illuminates green. So do my accessory gauges, so at night, the lighting doesn't clash with the stock gauges. While not looking truly accurate to the car, it blends in well.
My 2004 toyota truck has a cassette am/fm ... I don't think you could even buy a cassette tape in o4 :16suspect
That's what I did, and a few weeks ago I added my sub woofer and amp to it, watching a movie on it is awesome! explosions on the movie rock the car and you feel them in your chest, I can easily go back to original radio, but why would I want too? Sorry about the huge pic, it was in my attachments folder
go aftermarket, ive been installing stereo's for ages. i am a clarion fan. never had a failure from a clarion deck.
I would put a good and cheap tablet through an amp, that way you get touchscreen, music video, internet, and with some connectors even gauges!
