Hey there, I was wondering if a few of you out there could give me your opinions on what to do with my 302 2v and what you would do for bucket seats and possible body stripes you would put on/in your 73 maverick
    :burnout:(y)

The answer to your first question really depends on your budget.
Many people just start out with a 4-barrel intake, and dual exhausts, along with an electronic ignition conversion or pre-74 cars).

I wouldn't even think about stripes until you're ready to paint the car. Most people do "Grabber" stripes, but you can get as creative as you want.

There are many (who I'm sure will chime in here) who have installed various bucket seats in their Mavericks. The main thing to be aware of is that unless you have Maverick/Comet buck seat tracks, the swap will not be a direct bolt-in.

If you think you'll get a stock smogger 302 to run on a 4bbl carb and intake, it's all in your head(s), stock sucks for power... Need at least a set of GT 40s and I won't use any less than aluminum heads on my Ford small blocks...

Best thing to do with your 302 is swap it for an 87 or newer 5.0, can be had at junkyards for very cheap and also has like 75 more hp.

'Sorry, but my experience proves otherwise. A 4-V and dual exhaust produces a noticeable increase in power.

A noticeable improvement yes, but far from what a good set of heads can produce... I was almost in awe with my first 5.0 with the Trick Flows...

What do you plan to do with the car? Nobody can tell you which way to head with the engine unless they know what you want from it. You can get advice from tune it up to a full race engine. Define the car and it's intended use, and be honest.

Mustang high back buckets from 71 to 73 are fairly easy to find and pretty much the same as what came in a Maverick - I found mine on Ebay and they were a dirty Ginger color with rips and tears - no one wanted then so I got them for just around a hundred then I ordered replacement upholstery in black from a Mustang parts house :)

I agree completely, but again, depends on budget, and I don't know what this young man's budget is (or if he has rich parents).

I'll chime in on paint and interior. I love bench seats (2 other cars have buckets) and keeping the bench (haven't come up with color schemes yet though - probably black and grabber blue). The car in grabber blue with black c-stripes and the grabber on the hood.

Just my 2 cents, but I love the bench seats in these cars. I imagine it depends on what you're looking for in the car and how it will look inside and out!

I hate bench seats (especially in small cars). Whatever distance the driver adjusts the seat to, the passenger must move with it. What if the passenger is tall and the driver is short? Plus they simply don't have the sporty appearance that buckets have.

That might be true in the Maverick, but certainly not the Galaxie. I think buckets rock also, but I have pretty long legs and even with the seat all the way back in the Galaxie there is still plenty of room back there. Maybe not the Maverick, but that's like my car to drive and the way I want it I guess. With 3 on the tree, it just doesn't get better than that!

I guess it's preference and I just like the bench seats. I missed them for so long and now have two cars with them. Pinto and Mustang have the buckets and stuff. For me, I'm happiest with the bench seats :D If the Galaxie was 3 on the tree, life would be perfect! LOL
