Engine seized from excessive fuel. Why?

    It should be fine once everything is cleaned out. The only reason fuel went through before was the needle valve didn't seal. Also, does your carb have a filter in it? I would replace it if it does. I know a lot of folks that take these out when they put on the bigger inline ones. That final filter will help prevent anything from getting into the carb. :)

    I add a carburetor needle screen to all my vehicles. As a secondary catch that keeps harmful stuff out of the carb

    This leads to another observation, not having a auto shut off if the ign switch is on and engine is off is dangerous... What happens if you hit something, car goes on it's side or top and the pump is still running??? Or even if it stays upright, and a fuel line comes loose or is ruptured???

    I'll tell you, gas is pumped on to a hot engine and there's a real possibility of fire...

    a friend of mine just wired up his street rod truck. he put an...oil pressure switch...inline with his fuel pump. the oil pressure has to be up for the pump to run. this is on a carbed LSX 6.0. he also has a bypass button to fill the bowls on a dry carb.
    I have an inertia switch from a Crown Vic. on Patches.
    I'm regulating 60 PSI fuel injected pump to 6 PSI.

    The trash could be caused by ethanol dissolved the rubber or seals. Didn't you say last week that your gasoline was a year old?

    Yes, the gas is pretty old. Been in there since before I cut out the front end. I just topped off the tank with new super unleaded, so it is only half old gas.

    Well that explains it-----the car is half gassed :)

    Finally got a chance to tear into the carb today, and it REALLY needed it. Last time I had it open was when we had it on the dyno.

    I noticed (hindsight is 20/20) that when I first got the front end back together and started the car for the first time in over a year, the bowls were leaking. All the screws were not even hand-tight. I cranked the screws down and no more leak, but I have been complaining about running a bit rough.

    Well, apparently the bowl gaskets dissolved while the engine sat. I use the blue "non-stick" gaskets, but they were stuck like chuck!

    Spent a good hour scraping nasty sticky gasket off the faces.

    The gas was also pretty nasty. All kinds of junk floating in there.

    Raining and ugly outside so I have not started it back up to test it, but I did turn on the fuel pump and peered down into the carb and no leaks.
