Hello everyone. My son fell in LOVE with a 73 maverick for his first car. We have planned a father/son project. So far we have owned it a week and it turns out to be a lot more than we thought to get it going. We are hoping to learn a lot on here and hopefully set up a network for parts. Any suggestions on where to look for floor pans and a trunk pan? It also doesnt have the original motor in it. I'm trying to figure out whether it has a 302 or a 289 in it. It is a auto on the floor. We hope to share experiences and photos. Any feedback and help would be most welcome. We are in north Texas, south of Ft. worth. If i can figure out how to post pictures they will be forthcoming. Thank you.
welcome, your motor should be a 302, if its original, stopped the 289 in late 60s, but check your numbers to be sure, good luck with your project boys, and feel free to ask anything,
from Atlantic Canada! Looking forward to seeing some pictures. Floor and trunk pans are not reproduced for our cars. Many members here have been successful with modifying First-generation Mustang floor pans--plus, they are relatively cheap and readily available. The trunk pan will have to come from a donor Maverick or Comet.
Hello everyone. Thanks for the welcome. Are there any maverick owners on here from the dallas/ ft worth area? So first generation mustang floor pans work for a maverick. And preferred websites for shopping for parts? If anyone has a parts maverick i can get a trunk pan off of please pm me. The truck was so rusted through that i could use a cookie sheet to patch the hole in the fuel tank if that was feasible. I think we are going for a fuel cell setup and relocating the battery to the trunk also. (Not even considering a cookie sheet by the way) I'm pretty sure the motor is a 302 but i am having a hard time finding the numbers with it sitting in the car. I'm trying to get pics posted on here. Thank you
You are in good company in Texas!! Lots of Maverick people down there, plus the Maverick Nationals will be in Kerrville, Texas, plus lots of Texas Mini-Meets planned this year, including one at the end of this month. Check out this link: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=98009
from Virginia Beach. I'm working a father son project on a 71 Comet. I used 66-70 Mustang floor pans from CJ's Pony parts. I ordered the full length pans then only used what I needed. Then used the scraps to make a bunch of little patches. I also had to tear my cowl apart. Again used mustang repair parts from Melvin's Classic Ford Parts. They even have a Maverick parts book now. Good Luck
from the Tampa Bay area. Sounds like you two have some work to do. Something to consider is to look at how the floor is near the seat risers. If bucket seats are part of the plan, seat tracks for these cars can be tough to get. Mustangs use a separate riser, and really simple seat tracks. If the whole pan is in rough shape, might be easier to convert to that whole set-up in the long run. After you have 10 posts here, you can post pics. Anxious to see what you have there.
