Yesterday I reinstalled the front bench seat in my 77 Maverick two door that I have been working on for the past year and a half. I also installed the shoulder and lap belt set up after having all new webbing put on. Today I started to install the two female receiver seat belts and I knew something was not right. I have now determined that my bench seat is NOT from a 77 Maverick as it does not have the slits in the seat for the belts to fit through. I am guessing the earlier Mavericks had the belts fit through between the bottom and back cushions on bench seat applications. If this is correct, then that is how I will install mine, but I will need a couple of measurements. I will drill new mounting holes in the tunnel and replace the webbing with longer pieces. I would appreciate it if someone with a bench seat set up could give me the measurement for the hole location - say how far forward along the tunnel from the rear seat and the length of the webbing on the female receiver. Also, I may be way off in my thinking as this is my first Maverick. Yesterday was the first day I ever sat in a Maverick, let alone drive one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks John
You're making this more complicated than it is. The seat belts just go under the back of the seat between the cushions. Don't need "slits" and don't need to measure anything.
You could be right. The problem I have is when I mount the belts in the existing holes, pull them up between the cushions and move the seat back, there is not enough of the belt left to hook onto the shoulder/ lap belt. I am not sure the female belt that came with this car is the right one. I would like to know what the proper length of the OEM belt is.
The hole in the floor pan changed in '74. Never measured anything later so I don't know if it changed again. See http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=98332
