Sometime over the weekend driving my small center cap popped off and is long gone. Im planning on doing the front disc break swap soon and was wondering if i go ahead and get 15" rims for my car (mainly because i don't want to buy new tires too) will that still work with the disc break set up later this spring? Note: the rims came on the car and don't have a name on them to even attempt to find a replacement cap Thanks!
If you're asking whether or not you should upgrade to 15-inch wheels, of course you should. Rims are part of the wheel; the part the tire mounts to. If you don't have the budget for new wheels right now, 14-inch wheels will clear Maverick/Granada disc brakes. You just need to make sure the center hole is large enough to fit over the hub.
I already have them on my car. I just want to verify that they will fit after i switch to disc breaks so i don't end up having to buy something larger afterwards.
I believe those rims are by ET. The actual name they used for those is beyond my memory. I was in the wheel and tire biz in the early 80s. Those likely came out mid-80s. A 14x6 rim should easily fit with disc brakes. If those rims are 14x7, and close to no offset, it is possible that they will be close to the caliper, especially if there is some odd casting flash on the caliper. That can sometimes be cleaned up with a little grinding. If they are a bit deeper wheels, a 14x7 will probably clear fine. With added diameter, 15 inch rims clear a Granada caliper fine. You should also check that the center hole will clear the center on the disc brake rotor .... that center got larger than the early ones. Being aftermarket wheels, I doubt you would have an issue. Stock wheels are another story.
Zak, I have those exact wheels on my 75 Comet GT. I have 14 in front and 15 on the rear. It is a factory disc car and they fit with no problem. I upgraded to a R&C front with bigger calipers and they clear as we'll but just barely. FWIW Versailles discs also clear the rear. Am I understanding you right that you are keeping the ET wheels and they are 15"?
Yes! The tires have a lot of tread left so why buy new tires and rims when i only need the rims. Any chance you would know where to find a replacement center cap? I tried looking for them before after another member mentioned it above but can't find them
I had some unknown brand aftermarket wheels that I did not have caps for. I took the wheel to a tire store and they had a special tool to measure the center hole with. Once they had that measurement, they looked up center caps in a catalog and ordered me a set. Maybe this will help.
