Long story behind this car..I've told it before, but since I've officially started back up on the car, I wanted to create a build thread where I can show my daily/weekly progress on the car.

My mother bought it new in 72, was the family car until some point in the early 90's.

I barely managed to hold onto the car towing it from frat house to apartments etc as I was in my 20's..

around 2003 or so, my mother happened into my garage, and there was her long lost maverick that she had forgotten about...she got sentimental.

We took it to a resto shop, dumped 10 grand into the car...shop went out of business, it barely got painted...chrome wasn't done, and it body panels are barely hung.

Fast forward ten years and it's pretty much been sitting in the garage....

Now I've had the motivation to continue it, now that I finished my 66 mustang build that I've been doing the last 3-4 years.

I've decided to keep the car mostly stock inside and out...I'm gonna keep the original 4 wheel drum brakes, probably wheels and tires too, gonna keep original interior.

Engine has been upgraded, I dropped in a ford crate motor with aluminum gt40 heads and isky cam. The trans is a fully built Lentech AOD with aod x member I bought from this site.

I am real shy on cash, but I'm going to keep going.

This week I got the fuel pump eccentric on, and put the timing cover on, and mocked up a water pump...

Next week I plan on mocking up the shorty headers that I bought from Jamie at doug thorely to see if they clear my aod. Stay tuned, it'll come alive one day at a time

I've always wondered what happened with your car.

all of my friends and family give me so much trouble for abandoning it...

I built a 66 mustang from the ground up twice, amongst other cars.

I got real pissed off at the resto shop that went outta business. Besides the sheet metal being hung with a few bolts, there isn't a screw lense light or piece of trim on the entire car...I've gotta literally start from scratch.

What I need is a complete car that I can use to mock up everything...it'll be a long long haul, but I'm motivated this time

What timing cover did you use? Looks like maybe a fox mustang cover which has no dipstick or hole for a dipstick. the hole can be drilled but should be done off the car. Also if thats a Fox Mustang water pump it wont work with V-belts, youd have to use all the mustang brackets and serpentine belt.

It's a fox timing cover. I've already drilled out the inside for the fuel pump arm, and for the dipstick hole when it was on my work bench.

As for the pump, I just threw it on there so that I could have all my bolts in as the timing cover gasket was setting.

I haven't decided yet if I plan on running my vintage accessories and the v belt pullies, or if I want to run the fox water pump and serpentine pulley's. I'm leaning towards running the entire fox setup, as I have it already, and I don't like the look of the v belt.

I'll probably do something like this (this is my 66 coupe)....but instead of the tensioner relocator, I'll run the power steering pump, since the maverick has PS

Thats almost like my set up, but I used the crown vic water pump which is standard rotation so I didnt need the tensioner and used a March grooved water pump pulley.

    I like your setup better..

I've worked on a vic recently, and the water pump pulley had a dual serpentine belt setup.

exactly which water pump pulley are you using. Which balancer are you using, the early style or a fox style...which crank pulley is that? Thanks!!

It is a March pulley and bracket kit. Probably the same bracket you have. I am using a roller motor and the corresponding balancer. Ive seen some Vics and F150s I think that had the single belt grooved water pump pulley.

very interesting, I'll hit the search and google button...I didn't realize they made a standard rotation single grooved pulley setup....

Indeed your alt bracket looks just like mine, which means that you are at the "fox" depth for your accessory pulley's....Strange because the vic standard rotation water pump has a different depth than the fox reverse rotation pump......

It's looking like march corrected for that by making the pulley you have so everything will line up...

Man if I knew all this beforehand it would have saved me so much trouble with my 66 setup, it's not even funny...thx for posting your setup!

The 89 Vic pump is identicle on the outside to the Mustang pump. Just the impeller is reversed. go to the parts store and get both and set them side by side.
