So the other day i grabbed a five bolt drum brake rear end and started disassembling it...

How do i get the backing plate off!? Is there a way without an cal puller to get my crown vic disc brakes onto it...

This is assuming that you are working with an 8 or 9 inch rearend.

Once you remove the 4 axle retainer bolts and remove the axle , the plate will fall off. If the axle is stuck, put the drum on backwards and install a few lug nuts partially and use the drum as a slide hammer to remove the axle.

So i can reinstall it just by meshing it properly and tightening those nuts correct?

Clean up any corrosion inside the end of the axle tube and on the bearing, replace the axle seal while you are at it. Everything should just slide back together.

You mentioned Crown Vic Disc Brakes, is that what your trying to remove. If so you have to pull the rear cover off the 8.8 and remove the pin and c clips to remove the axle. Frank (71Gold) has a good thread on the Crown Vic discs on here.

Yeah i already have everything from the crown. I was just confused about why neither one of my axles wanted to move at all. I ended up taking a small 5 lb hammer and just pounding on the backing plate while my friend rotated the assembly, eventually it all popped off. Tommorow im gonna try and reassemble everything. Hopefully no spacers, etc are required
