My Grandmother will be 100 years old this summer. She bought a brand new 1970 Maverick in 1969. It now has about 85k miles on it and has lived in a garage it's whole life - until now. Grandma gave me the Maverick. It is in pretty nice shape but it sat for five years without moving or being started so there are a few challenges there. I had it towed to my house and am slowly going through it trying to get it in shape to be my daily driver back-up car/week-end shopping trip car. So far I replaced the radiator and radiator hoses, thermostat, and flushed the block, air filter, spark plugs, and battery. Next on my list is oil change, master cylinder and 4 wheel cylinders, and plug wires, cap, rotor, points, and condensor. I doubt that It will run until I clean out the entire fuel system, so that is probably going to happen too. Oh and there is that $750 bill for DMV fees... but the car was free so I guess I can't complain! Lots of fun!
Tracy, CA Hi Red, I am near Tracy (Central Valley). The Maverick spent most of its life in Sacramento. It's pretty cool fixing up the same car that I rode in when I was seven years old! Can't wait to drive it!
Jeff Have you started the DMV process ? It not find a license service other than the DMV classic car are exempt from back license fees in calif. As of when I license my 56 f100 five years ago. The DMV will not tell you this but a license service who knows the law will. It you have already open a new file with the DMV you are screwed pay the fees.
Hi MavDog, No, I have not started the process yet. I was hoping it would drop out of the system but it's still there. Great idea, I will check a license service. Can you recommend any? Thanks!
