So i wasnt getting spark from cranking the engine with the key but when i use a toggle switch to keep power to the coil i got spark, so i ran a wire from the red/green wire side of the solenoid to the positive side of the coil and i started it with the key and it ran but when i turned it off and tried it again i got no spark. I went and changed my points and condensor and still no spark so it must be my coil. Did this happen because i dont have the resistor hooked up or the wire i ran from the solenoid to coil?
If it's the stock coil, yes. You need to drop the voltage from the battery 12V to about 8-9V. If you want to do this the CORRECT way, you run the red/green wire from the solenoid to a 12V automotive relay (like from radio shack). You wire from 1 side of the relay to a ballast resistor, and from the resistor to the battery. then from the other side of the relay to your Ignition Coil.
Or, since I don't know if his factory harness is complete, I'm just going to tell him how to do it the way he's doing it, but without burning down his car around his ears.
