302 and long tubes

Do you put the headers on the motor before dropping the motor in or can you get your headers on with the motor already in. the headers im using are the 6901s

 

I always put them on after the motor is in...

 

With mine, motor in first and jacked up a few inches off the motor mounts. And I have to do the driver's side first otherwise the steering box is in the way.

 

Is that because they cant be put on before hand? or its just easier? AAnd you drop them in from the top?

If you have the time you might consider shaving the towers since the motor is out..

 

X2 That's the first thing I did to mine. And they go in from the bottom, not the top. Or at least my Hedman's did with the engine lifted up off the mounts.

 

they go in from the bottom and the engine has to be a few inches above the stands

 

Gotta do one side at a time. And raise the engine up a few inches for each side. Its a really tight fit.

 

If you can get the front end high enough with a jack, you can do it with the engine bolted to the mounts. Has to be about 2' in the air though. My passenger side goes in without a hiccup...but the drivers side will elicit new and creative bad words

 

You will need a power steering drop bracket if you have p/s
