I had the car painted in 1982. The painter had no way to do the Grabber detail, and at the time I didn't care, painting the stripe was cheaper. I just want to put something there for now, I have no clue when a new paint job is coming. I want to do the proper reflective decal then.

That philosophy only applied to the HOOD treatment. The side stripes on both 71 and 72 were vinyl decals. The "Grabber" logo on the 71 side stripes was painted (silk-screen-printed, IIRC) ON the decal, and in 72 the "Grabber" logo was die-cut out of the decal with a tiny bit of body colour creating an outline around the word "Grabber".

Here is what I just bought. It comes in orange and black also. The price of these has tripled since the last timeI bought them. Certainly not unaffordable but a little high for what they are. Jim Osbourne was much less than AK. The difference in the new ones was the that its clear a rectangle with Grabber printed on it. The old ones were just the word Grabber. I trimmed off the clear part before pealing the back, it tends to show if you leave it on.

When I bought the car around 1980, it had the correct reflective decal, someone else was driving the car one night and I noticed it. I thought it was pretty cool.

So, am I understanding correctly that the 71 and72 grabber stripes on the side were decals and the hood was painted? If so, is that also true for the 1970 Grabber? I am thinking about making a grabber clone out of one of my 1970 Mavericks.

ALL side stripes were vinyl decals.

1970 and 1971 Grabbers had painted hood treatments/stripes.

    1972-1975 hood stripes/treatments were vinyl.

The 1970 stripes were two separate painted stripes on a flat hood and ran up across the cowl. The 1971 hood treatment is one large painted area and is on the hood only. The 1972 hood treatment is two separate vinyl stripe/panels with a small relief of body colour that runs up the middle of the hood and is on the hood only.
