okay so I managed to get drums in the right size and all seemed to be going well until I put the tires back on... if I tighten the tire all the way tight the the wheel wont turn... I have no idea what is causing this....i don't know if the drums are just a little to wide or what is going on but any input would be a great help
before you installed the tire, did you try turning the drum/axle first?? Did you notice if the drum was seated against the axle flange/hub or was there space. possible that drum and/or brake shoes are not matched or installed correctly...... David pics would be helpful too
Everything is installed right and the drum was tight against the rear backing plate and it spun freely until I tightened down the tire
wheel/tire hitting anything, like leaf springs if too much backspacing..... post a couple of pics if you can, then we might beable to see something that is not right.......
So I figured out after further inspection the lip that slips into the backing plate is slightly to long and hits the backing plate so when its fully tightened it seizes up, and tips on fixing this?
so definitely wrong drum for your application........any chance of returning or exchanging for correct? read your post from the start, are your axles 4 or 5 bolt?? so the only brake parts you purchased where shoes and drums, the backing plate still the same? yes, one can machine the lip on the back of the drum, but more money... I know I have a couple of sets of used rear 5 bolt pattern drums, but would have to check/measure to see if still within specs. where did you purchase your drums, seems you are having so much problems, Calgary should have some pretty good auto shops to get parts! I'll see if I can dig out the drums and check them out.......
I just don't get it, so I'm thinking I may just return the drums and buy the rear disc brake kit from summit
Mid 90's Crown Vic rear disc will be a lot cheaper. Be sure to get a section of the brake lines to get the fittings.
