I am rebuilding a 72 Comet GT and I have a Boss 302 I want to put in it.
Has anyone done this before? I am ready to cut 2" out of the shock towers for clearance.
    Anyone been there done that?

    Thanks, Dennis in Iowa

Not many for the Boss around here. Usually for a 351 or 347 and even the 302. My 72 and 73 will have them deleted and a MII suspension under them. The 73 will give up the 302 to put it into the 72 and then it will get a 250.
Here's the 72.. It was already deleted and is being put back together first.

By the way. If you use the search field up at the top area it will help find information on stuff. Just type in different words like notch or delete. You can use multiple words also like "shock tower notch" etc.. Check it out before you do anything.

A Boss 302 in a Comet GT is a cool combo!

I remember one of my uncle's old 1971 Supercars drag test magazines. In the back of it was a picture of a prototype 1971 1/2 Boss 302 Comet GT. I wish they would have made that car!!

If fact here is an except from another forum about what is the strangest 'factory or factory Ford/Mercury' car that you ever saw in person. So I guess the car did exist.

    5. A 1971 Mercury Comet GT prototype with factory installed Boss 302/4spd combo. It had special "one off" cast iron exhaust manifolds similar to the 427 "header" type found on Galaxies.
It was competion yellow with the black accent treatments on the hood, rocker panels, and tail light panel.

A Boss 302/302 clevor is a bolt in deal. Headers can be purchased from Tubular Automotive or Auto Krafters. This combo was very competitive in B/SM way back when. You don't have to shave the towers, but it makes life easier in maintaining it.

I was going to do a clevor in my Maverick, but ultimately decided to go the Windsor route to keep things simple, given that my car is street driven with air and PS.

A 302 BOSS. And Comets are cool. The only thing I don't like about 'em is that they were never available with t a Grabber ducktail, but that can be added.

On a Maverick it becomes a Grabber with a duck tail. On a Comet it becomes a cool Comet with a spoiler possibly a GT :rofl2:

    :whip::deadhorse

Don't listen to the old angry guy Dennis. He's in denial cause he actually wishes he had spent his energies on fixing up a Comet and instead created a Maverick Cobra duck. :rofl2: :burnout:

I have several 351 engines. Only putting one in mine.

Had a friend up the road from me with a 302 Boss in his Mav drag car and it fit nice. He had custom headers on it I believe. Now I wonder what he ever did with it? Hmmmm.

Are you talking of the '70s Boss (Cleveland heads on a 302 block) or the current "Boss 302" (all Windsor style engine) crate motor Ford sells now?

If you have a complete, real '70 Boss 302 you could probably sell it and finance your entire build. I have a '70 block that came from Roush Racing's SCCA program that I have turned down a fairly large chunk of money for just a bare block. A complete motor brings good money.

    Welcome from SE Iowa.
