Can someone give me the measurement of the distance between the rear screw hole of a sport mirror to the back edge of the door? Mucho appreciated if you can, thanks.....Dave
From the body line created when the door changes direction from vertical to horizontal I got 28 7/8".
Using the same place as Craig, I have 32 7/8" - this is on the '70 Grabber which had a more forward mounted mirror than later cars. I prefer the mirror up there, easier to see into it at that forward angle.
Look at post 136 in my build thread ... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=55560&page=14 I originally mounted my sports mirrors, using the factory chrome mirror's front mounting hole, which also put the remote cable in the same place. Put the passenger side mirror on using the same dimensions. In actual use, this made for a pretty tight field of view ... there was room for improvement. After a lot of trial and error, remounted them forward, after hearing that the factory did this a couple ways in different years. Moving them too far forward made them stick out like big ears. Where I ended up placing them works good for both improved function and didn't mess up the way it looks when viewed 3/4 front. The field of view seem much better.
OK Jeff, how bout you give me the measurement on YOUR doors, from the center of the rear hole to the back edge of the door?
But ... I gave you the measurement from the front of the door ... Are your doors shorter? (I'll be right back after I go to the garage ... get a tape measure .... etc .... LOL)
That measurement on mine is 32 and 3/4. It falls on a curve, and this is as close to parallel to the body line that I can make it. You are using factory sport mirrors, right? Just want to be sure that I am not confusing your car with another build.
You did give that measurement, but it was hard for me to figure where exactly you took it from. Thus its easier to get the back of door edge to the rear hole. (for me, anyways)
Yes, I am using the factory sport mirrors. And that is basically the same measurement as Eric had in his post above, Thanks!!!!!!
