Hello to all you Maverick Gurus. I am in the manufacturing business and am getting a lot of requests for early Maverick parts. I manufacture dash pads, kick panels, etc, etc for late 50's to early 70's Fords and Mercs and am looking to move into new areas, the Maverick line is one of those areas.
I have quite a bit of work ahead in market analysis, demand etc and I need your help. If any of you have links, info or other information regarding the need of products similar to what I currently make send it my way please. I am rather uneducated on the Maverick line and the need therein. You can see what I do @ Rhinofabrication.com
With your help I can determine my future projects and their feasibility.
I appologise if this seems like an advertisement. I simply need info from the people that know. I am particularly interested in dash pad and kick panel info, such as cross fitments and differences from year to year. It is my understanding that there is not much out there for you guys.
    Thanks,
    Tim / owner / rhinofabrication / 541 480 5526

    :Welcome: to the forum.

I guess the toughest thing, is the demand for a "maverick only" part is very limited. While we are a passionate bunch about our cars, the facts are it is a very limited market due to the low number of these cars left, compared to say a Mustang.

If you could get 25 guys to buy a dash pad, I think you would get just about everyone that needs one.

Could you make a profit on such a low number of sales?

I purchased a set of kick panels for my Falcon from Tim, they are top notch and priced at a good price. If he makes stuff for Mavericks I would definitely buy from him (y)

The way my funds have taken a downward spiral, I will have to be happy with my dash cap but thank you for stepping up to the plate for the Maverick/Comet folks :bananaman

Dash pads are the same for all year Mavericks. I would guess demand for them to be on par with the Falcon line. Good originals bring upwards of $300-400, when they show up on the market.

Great response members, I guess my answer to the question of volume and profit is the numbers would need to be far above 25. My nitch market is the items that have lower volumes thus are not made off shore by the big boys. I like to make great parts and the idea of huge numbers (volume) doesn't interest me. They told me I couldn't sell my 56 pad because there was not enough interest but I ship it all over the world and it is real strong in the market. I don't mind low numbers as long as I can justify the tooling investment, which is substantial I must admit. In short I really don't target Mustang and Camaro type volumes but the lower demand items that no one else wants to or can afford to invest in I produce. Since we do every aspect of the production in house we really can keep costs in line and be competitive.
Ok, enough of that. One of you mentioned that all Maverick pads are the same, is the grain the same each year also? I believe I will keep my eyes open for some old pads for cores to study and possibly use for patterns should I choose to go forward. Give me some time to study and make some decisions. Thanks, Tim

All Maverick & Comet dash pads are the same, exactly the same.
I can tell you from first hand experience, you can build something that people want, and half the people will complain about the price, and the other half just want it regardless, its not like dealing with Mustang guys.
It seems that there are still some that have a Maverick or Comet because they are cheap, and even if you payed them to take the part, they'd still complain about it, it's sad but true, but there is a good sized Maverick market that has absolutely nothing to do with this site.

If we are discussing dash pads, would you also have to make the metal backer panel that is cast into the Maverick dash pad? I would think this might be the hard part to make.

It seems that there are more than 2,000 cars represented by members of this forum. How many of those cars have a dash that is not cracked? Both my '73 and parts car have bad dashes. Just 5 percent of that total getting a new reproduction would make a run of 100, more or less. There could be the possibility of vendors also carrying the parts to make them more widely available for non-forum Maverick/Comet owners. I say, give it some investigation.

I will be sending Tim a set of early kick panels for him to research, the ones I bought for my Falcon are very similar to the Maverick/Comet panels. The panels I bought had speaker pods in them, this would really help out in our cars
