Has anyone seen a spacer like this before, and how do I remove it? I installed a Champion 3-row radiator in my 74 comet and nothing fits, including the fan being too close to the radiator.

I need to remove the spacer and either put a shorter one on or go to an electric fan, but I can't figure out how to get it out....there is not a bolt in the middle of it hold it on the pulley and it almost looks like it is part of the pulley, which makes no sense..

    Thank you

Hit it with a hammer. Seriously.

It fits snug over the alignment snout of the water pump impeller shaft. Tap down on it with a hammer as you rotate it around.

By the way, I would loosen the P/S belt before going any further, will make your life easier.

The spacer usually corrodes up over the years causing it to get very tight. As stated, just tap it with a hammer, rotate, tap on other side, rotate, tap...you get the picture. It will come off.

when putting a shorter spacer on, watch the length of the bolts you use to mount it with. too long will not work...

and when changing the bolts, make sure to use fine threaded bolts. the water pump is easy to screw up!

thanks guys, I did get a spacer that came with shorter bolts and the right thread...it's this one below..

the center hole on the spacer that goes on the water pump pulley is slightly larger than the indent on the pulley, but once I tightened it down it seems stable....makes me kind of nervous though, hope it stays in place.

there should have been a brass sleeve with it to center the spacer on the water pump. did you not use it? (its in that pic)

actually the one that I used is 1 3/4" long and did not come with that sleeve. the one in the picture is 2 1/4" long which is the same length as my old one and would not work.

Do you guys think I need to find one with a sleeve or once the spacer is bolted down will be fine?

    Thanks

If it was me...I would find the correct Ford spacer.
