So I'm gonna be cutting the catalytic converter out of my 75 Maverick, I finally got collectors plates, so I don't need emissions. I'm interested in side-piping the exhaust system to exit before the rear wheels. But I'm wondering if I should straight pipe it, or what kind of muffler to put on it. It has a 2" glasspack on it now that dumps after the rear wheels. What would sound the best? I've heard flowmasters that sound pretty good, but I've never personally heard them. Any comments are welcome it's a 250 I6
Sorry.......but in MY opinion I think a 250-6 sounds best when you can't hear it at all. I think you will find all those other options will make the car too loud and obnoxious.
I agree with Craig. If you want the car to be louder, a glasspack will sound much better than a flowmaster on a Inline 6. You should gut the cat rather than remove it completely.
my exhaust was GONE on my 75 with a 250, just the head pipe remained, so as a temporary measure i have a glasspack (longest one i could find) and it exits out the side at an andlge right by the rear tire. its not bad overall from the outside, but it drones especially with the passenger window open in the car. when i get around to getting the 6 into one header on it i will run it out the back.
It's against federal law to remove it, but depends on where you live if you think anyone's gonna look under it to check.
I ran a glasspack on my 250 and loved the way it sounded. Make it sound way meaner than it really was.
Assuming no leak before the cat, if it were stopped up the engine would not be running, been there done that...
I would gut the cat & leave it on there just in case where you live gets strict on em,you never know what the tree huggers will do next.
And just who's going to arrest him for doing so ? Ever seen someone arrested for "tampering" with the exhaust ? It's a 40 year old car, nobody cares what he does with it.
