I'll be heading up North I-65 next week to pick up my new Maverick project. I'll leave Alabama Wednesday morning the 23rd. Planning on stopping at Nashville and spend Thursday there in hopes my wife can enjoy a portion of the trip. Can't just make it all about me, ya know. Sounds like we're gonna miss Don Comfort here by a day...what a shame. We'll get up Friday morning and head to Elizabethtown Ky to see Ward Frahler and John Ford (if he's able to make it). It's been a few years since I've seen either of these guys and I truly look forward to it. I also look forward to visiting Tony Hahn and family Friday afternoon. My wife and I will get the opportunity to attend the Somernites Cruise in Somerset Ky with Tony. I know that's going to be awesome as well.

Ward offered up his yellow 70 Maverick just about the time I had decided to build me a new one. When I saw the pics and read what all he had already done to it he had my full attention. This car was certainly headed in the direction I was wanting to go. As I get older I realize that I appreciate a/c more and more among other things and I have a little less desire to have to load my car on a trailer if I'm making a long trip. I want to drive my car...and not just around town. I'd love to do a Power Tour, or even drive to the next big Maverick meet...wherever it might be.
Will my car be fast? Sure!! Is it going to be a race car? Nope! But you can believe I'll likely be bowing up on the streets if they wanna try me out. It's just in my blood.
I may even do a build thread but it won't compare to the 3 or 4 awesome builds we have going on right now. I will use some of their ideas though.
Most of you know I sold my blue Shelby Maverick in order to buy a 66 Shelby Cobra replica. I don't really regret doing it because I have always been in love with the Cobras and have wanted one since I was old enough to drive. Well, I did it, and I have enjoyed the Cobra very much. It gets a tremendous amount of attention. I've never had a car get photographed so much. It's pretty neat when people flag you down for photos, take shots driving beside you down the interstate, wreck their car while driving beside you because they're not watching the traffic in front of them. (it did happen)
However, I'm not in love with this car! I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I didn't build it myself. The excitement just isn't there when I enter it in a car show like when I had the blue car. I can't take credit for doing anything other than correcting an overheating problem with it. I could talk with people about my blue car for as long as they could stand it. There's not much to talk about with the Cobra. It's a kit car that's fun to drive...for a little while. They are not comfortable at all if you're going to be in it for more than a couple hours or so. That's probably just the age thing coming back into play though. So, with that being said, I've got the Cobra up for sale. I've also sold my Sprint since I've decided to go pro-touring style. The Sprint will be leaving the house this weekend. I will miss it because I did want to build it but it's just not fitting into my future plans. When I was younger and more energetic I wanted one of everything. Now I just want everything in ONE! :yup: I have a super nice silver Stallion that will be for sale before too long also. Maybe some time in the next 6-8 months, or longer. Who knows? I certainly don't. The only thing I do know is that I want another Maverick that I personally built, body, paint, interior, drive train...the whole works. Something I can talk about, maybe even brag about. Yep...that's me...a Maverick man. Always have been and always will be.

Would be great to see a few more Mavericks at Somerset! Let me know if anybody plans on being the next Friday or Saturday. And thanks again to Ward Frahler!! :Handshake See ya in a few days.

You are certainly headed in the right direction by buying that car! I have personally seen that car many times and it has what you need to go on the Power Tour...ENJOY IT!(y)

    Ray,

I hope you have a safe trip up to Kentucky and back, I am sure you will have a great time with Ward, Tony and everyone one else up in the Kentucky area for the Summer Nights Cruise in Somerset!

I can relate to you just wanting to do just one car and doing it right, the way you truly want it to be and to be able to drive it on trips, not just short trips around town or to some local car cruise. I myself have just decide to go almost the same route and concentrate on just one car, instead of many. Old age has away of creeping up on you before you know it. But old age also gives you more knowledge, sensibility and practicality about things.

I wish you luck with your build. Keep us posted with pics and I look forward to seeing it when it is done. Glad you are back with the Mavericks!

Glad your building another Maverick! I wanted that car (just so we can say all of Ward's Mavericks moved to Missouri without him) but space and circumstances were an issue. Was happy to see who bought it. Looking forward to the build.

Man, can I relate. For many years I had multiple cars, boats and a helicopter. Loved all of them and had so many plans for each. One day while waxing my 2006 Mustang GT I got up off the ground and could hardly move a muscle. Couple this with the fact that a year past and I had not even gotten either of my hotrod boats on the water. Reality set in that in my late 50's, I am not the person I used to be. The years of building and maintaining multiple toys are GONE! Since then I have sold my pristine 77 Mustang II, a Fusion, a 21' Superboat and am going to list my Mustang GT shortly.

My 74 Grabber is my last project, the last car I will build the way I want it and yes, it will be driven to the 2015 round-up, provided they don't stop selling Ibuprofen.
