I thought I gave the body shop a clean 1971 Maverick Grabber. After blasting, he asked me to try and find a clean hood and deck. It's a Grabber hood, but he said he could use any stock hood and cut off the front rusted section. The rear deck is also not that bad, so I'm looking for something that is 100% clean of any rust. I doubt I will find anything, but it's worth asking. Can anyone help? (I have already sent Craig's Maverick Corral an e-mail)
Did you try this guy? He has been posting this stuff for awhile. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/pts/4583305772.html
Thanks, I will check it out. However, I suspect since the quarters are completely rusted, I will not find a perfect hood/decklid. I do appreciate the info, especially since it is so close to me!
I have a rust free hood that I can cut for you. You'll have to pay for the full hood but shipping would be a lot less that way.
Great. I think I'll send you a pic tomorrow to assure your rust is less than what I have. If so, then I'll send you the cutting specs and you can let me know how much $. I'm not sure how to use this forum right, but I'll risk sending you my direct e-mail to further communicate: sschaefer000@centurytel.net. Also, If it is a Grabber hood, I'll consider the entire hood. I suspect shipping would be ugly from the northwest. Do you also have a rust free trunk lid? Thanks!
I believe the later trunk lids are different so be sure to get an earlier one - you are correct on the hood lip - all will fit the front of a Grabber hood
Why not just make a new sheet metal for your hood. Use 19 gauge metal and a piece of angle iron or anvil and a body hammer...
Sounds good to me. I'm not doing the body work and the guy doing it is a perfectionist. He likes steel, not putty. This is what he prefers and he says it will save me $ (Although I have not seen a price yet for the new hood!). Again, thanks for the recommendation. I will pass it on if the cut hood is too much $. All advice is appreciated as I am a rookie here.
I made this battery support brace for my Sprint Pinto using a 45 lb "china" anvil and a body hammer...
