Ok, as promised, here are some pics of my latest project. Long story short, a friend of mine inherited his aunt & uncle's place with "an old car on it". He needed to have the car removed and called me, telling me that it was a "Old Mercury Comet", did I want it ? He had no idea what year it was. We finally went and looked at, some 45 miles away: dark garage, wasps, and crap piled all over it, you could barely see the car: the aunt had been gone for over 10 years. I could tell it was a '70s model and wasn't real interested at first, but decided what the heck, I needed a winter project. Offered $300.00 and he said "No, I'll take $250.00". Couldn't pass it up ! So (as I promised to keep this story short), got it towed to my shop, put new plugs, fuel pump, & filter in and it is now running and idling. Has some rust (minor, I used to restore '56 Ford F100's) and is otherwise in excel[ lent shape ! All the glass, chrome, and even the hub caps are awesome ! When I first saw the Avacado interior in the daylight, I wasn't too happy, but it it is growing on me. The more I touch this car, the more I like it !!!!
Stay calm but you've been infected, the MavCom or ComMav disease has taken hold. Before long you'll lose all interest is just about everything else and become devoted to the machine! Looks like you got a real nice one!!
Thanks, all. I know it's a four door and "just" a 250, but it's going to make a great daily driver. Just crawled underneath, and no rust in the floor pans, and the battery tray is even clean ! Gotta get into the trunk yet (no key) and see if there are any surprises there. The vinyl top is intact and I don't see any signs of rust bubbles, but it really discolored. Anything out there to clean this up a little or should I think about dying it ?
