To my knowledge, Mustangs did not use them, at least my 70 Mach does not have them.

They must have used just the one side to keep water from dropping into the vent.

    Hello rthomas771,
    Thanks for posting the photo.
Does this part need to be this deep?
Could you just use a standard rubber grommet??
I'm assuming this part is quite brittle and getting one off would be impossible in the breakers yards.
What year Mavericks use this part?

I was lucky enough to find 2 NOS grommets. The only 2 that I have found.

they are not that brittle used. most I find are scuffed badly from someone not removing them when repainting and sand the lips almost off.
I'm not sold on the idea that they "keeps water out of the vent". water still runs down the stem on the wiper motor...:yup:

Yes, the part has to be long enough to allow the water to travel (on the angle of the wiper posts) away from the vent rim and onto the back of the cowl panel.
These are the same for ALL Mavericks/Comets.

Frank, yes it still runs down the stem, to where there is butyl and the leather gaskets. The rubber grommet acts to redirect the flow of water down to the lower cowl panel, instead of allowing it to drip along the underside of the cowl cover and down into the vent. the curved slope of the cover would cause water intrusion into the vent quite readily.
