Looking at getting a 88 EFI 302 out of a F150. What are some parts that I need to make it carburetor. Looking for the cheaper but still good parts. Also looking for any other advice that might could help me with this swap.
You would need an intake, carb and distributor. That engine should have a flat tappet cam so any distributor for the older engines would do, just pick your poison.
the truck cam will have a slightly " milder" spec. good for towing, not so great for a car. the specific differences i dont remember but that is something you need to think about.... i suggest a cam and lifters, maybe if it is worth it retrofit a roller type system, in fact it might already be drilled for the roller spider hold downs... just depends on what you're looking for.
Does anyone have any recommendations on which, intake, carb., cam, and distributor would be good for this setup. Also what parts would I need to make this a roller motor?
Like i said above the block might be drilled for a roller. If it is you just need a cam and lifters and the spiders to keep the lifters from rotating. Also i have a factory aluminum 4 barrel intake I'll sell for a good price. Just let me know
If you already have a 302 installed then just swap pieces from orig, you'll basically need most of it besides the block and heads anyway... Compared to a original '70s 302, that truck motor will make at least another 40Hp using it's stock cam... Yeah you can swap cams and make more power, but that can be said for probably 99.999999% of all engines... One thing that won't swap is the flexplate/flywheel, you'll need a 50oz imbalance unit to match whatever transmission you're using... Also you must use the harmonic balancer from the truck motor...
The Maverick is a factory 6 cylinder. Will the truck trans fit in the car? Will the truck have a 50 oz imbalance unit in it?
If it's a AOD yes will fit but truck & LSC Lincoln versions are approx 1" too long, plus will require custom trans mount and a carb type TV cable... If cable isn't connected and properly adjusted, the transmission will be burned up before you can go more than a couple miles... Swap would be a lot easier using a small block C4 with a 50oz aftermarket 157T flexplate if necessary(these were never factory)... C4 from behind 250 6cyl do bolt up but you still need the proper flexplate, all AOD use 164T... You'll absolutely have to have a front sump oil pan, the rear sump that's on all late vehicles will not work... With the front sump the the timing cover will have to be drilled to accept the dipstick tube and matching stick... Orig opening in side of block will have to be plugged...
I c So I can actually just leave the original I6 transmission in and bolt it to the 302? Would it hold up good?
Probably not, but could be used for awhile... Does you car have a 250??? We're not mind readers, knowing what you have makes recommendations much easier...
I'm definitely not expecting anyone to be a mind reader. compared to everyone in this forum, I have very limited experience with Mavericks. so I've probably had some dumb questions and probably Will have many more............ I'm just trying to do as much research and get as much information from experts as I can before I start on my project........... My Car Is A 75 Maverick With An Inline 250 6 Cylinder.
Ok that trans will fit a 302, a 200 I6 trans will not... If it's in good condition and you don't beat on it all the time, a C4 for 250 should hold up for awhile,... Something else to consider is exhaust system, the truck manifolds may or may not work in the Maverick chassis, depends on their exit position...
