Hello! I'm new to the forum but I am a longtime Ford Maverick owner. Bear with me, this could be a long and complicated story. I still own my first Maverick which is a 1970 Grabber that I drove since I was Jr in high school. Back then it was powered by the 200 cid I6. In 1975 I bought a new 2-door Maverick. My neighbor owned a 63 Fairlane with a 289 Special in it that he wrapped around a pole, I bought the Fairlane and put the 289 in the 1970 Grabber which really made it a fun ride! I could lay rubber at 55 mph. In 1984 my brother blew the engine in the car he was using to commute to work so I gave him the 289 out of the Grabber to use in his car to get to work. I intended to put a 351 in the Grabber but in the meantime life got in the way and it is still sitting to this day and the 351 I intended to put in back then is still sitting under a table in my old shop. My 75 is sitting on jack stands outside my old shop where it's been since my grown kids were little awaiting the fresh 250 cid I6 that is sitting inside. Somehow I just couldn't ever get around to putting that 250 in the Maverick, I wonder how much that had to do with a deep-seeded desire to upgrade it to a V8? OK, jump to today, I was talking to my brother and he had found that Auto Krafters is reproducing the V8 frame mounts for Mavericks. He thinks it's time I should get the old Mavericks back on the road. He is going to buy a set for me (I have the greatest brother in the world) and he wanted to know what 302 I wanted to put in the 1975. I have a number of 302s and four 351 Windsors awaiting a new purpose in life. I told him that I thought that 5.0 HO in that wrecked Lincoln LSC GTC would be interesting. He thought I would be better off with the 1979 302 in my 1969 F100 since he thought we had a flexplate that would work with the C4. I told him that I thought I might like to just go ahead and put the AOD that is in the Lincoln in the Maverick. He says that the cross member is further back on an AOD. I told him, We have several welders. Anyhow the C4 has been sitting on the 75 for a number of years without the hood on so I wonder if it's any good. He says, Is the dipstick in it? I told him that it should be, of course, I couldn't tell for 100% certain without looking, it is sitting in front of my old shop, at a farm that we moved away from in 2008. Even though we own the farm and we should be able to leave things as we see fit, I've had a lot of stuff stolen from there. I own a lot of stuff and I'm really busy making a living but that is a rant best left for somewhere else. My brother thinks the C4 should be good as long as the dipstick is still in it. Anyhow, I wouldn't mind using the 75 as a daily driver next summer. It's a well equipped Maverick with disc brakes and air conditioning. P.S. Over the years I have acquired a couple of 4-doors and another 1970 Grabber as parts cars.
Welcome Those dipsticks don't really seal from the elements, my bet there is water in the pan... One of the members here on the board sells a custom trans mount for AOD, downer is the LSC trans is approx 1" longer than other AOD or C4 Verses a stockish '70s 302, the roller cammed LSC engine is a no brainer, makes at least 50-60 more HP...
Welcome to the board, I have to agree .... roller cam 5.0 is a great start. I have a 351W in my Comet. Did the swap a long time ago. Stroked 5.0s are much easier now, and are a far better fit. You will also have much better choices for headers for a 5.0. Many 351 headers made for the swap are compromised due to the tight confines.
from Atlantic Canada! The 5.0 roller and C4 is a popular choice, and there is lots of aftermarket support for the correct 157-tooth 50.oz flexplate you'll need to do it. A friend of mine got one off of e-Bay for under $100 shipped to Canada. and BTW,
