It stopped working a while back. Got a new cable from rockauto that matched by what it said "V8 Automatic trans.; W/o cruise; Cable Length 80.00 inches" and while it made the speedo active, it just made a squealing noise, the meter was very shaking in its movements and it would periodically just stop and then spin all the way around. It has also always been about 10 mph off. My dad who does most of the major work mechanically, and I'm just trying to learn on my first project car, says he's not 100% sure whats wrong but the connector on the cable does look different than the old one. I'm not sure what part I am suppose to order if this was the wrong one. I did buy a used speedometer in good shape but haven't put it in yet since he is convinced its a cable issue. Any one familiar with what could be causing this issue or have a link to the correct cable I should be using? Thank you.

Is the gear going into the trans good? Check to see if the teeth are missing. If everything looks good than it could the the speedometer.

I bought that same cable recently. It is too long. I took it to a speedometer shop and they cut about 12" off and put on a new end. Do you still have your original one to compare it to?
