This is a question for those of you that have invested a considerable amount of money into your Mavericks. Do you have a car alarm or any sort of anti-theft system?? Perhaps "The Club"?? I was curious as to if any of you have something like that or if you think its worth investing some money into. Any car thats somewhat "flashy" or fixed up is most definitely a target for thieves or vandals.

I guess I just dont know if I should be safe and do it or am I just bein paranoid.
Get back to me if you have any words, thanks.

No anti theft devices but lots of insurance. Besides, who but us would want a Maverick?

Club doesn't do much. On later cars the just spray the steering wheel with a component cooler such as freeze-it and smack it with a hammer the wheel shatters and off they go. On our cars you can pull the steering wheel in minutes and slip a spare one on and away they go.

The club sometimes makes the thief look for an easier target.

I've always wanted to do a fuel shut off switch as well as an ignition cut switch in a recinforced, locked glove box or something...somewhere a thief couldn't get to it vey easily.

Last Friday night we had our stereo stolen out of our family car. Unfortunately we left it unlocked and forgot to take the faceplate off the stereo. So in a way we were asking for it. The stupid thing is the same thing happened last August. Within the past year we have had a laptop, 2 stereos, and my daughter’s purse and video games stolen, all because we forgot to lock the car doors. You would think we learn. Others in the neighborhood have experienced the same thing. The guy across the ally from me told me that last year he saw foot prints in the fresh snow leading to my car. then his truck and then to the neighbors jeep.

What I would like to do is get a two way alarm, disconnect the siren, bait the car with a cheep purse or something, then just wait with the phone. and when the dork shows up, call the cops.

    Also:

Back in the 80's, I saw an article in a street rod magazine on an antitheft device in which you have what looks like a gas shutoff device operated by a key hidden down on the floor between the seat and the door. Instead of a gas shutoff, the brake lines ran through it, and as you left your car you would apply the brakes and shut the valve, thus "applying the brakes to all 4 wheels".

Not sure what it would do to the wheel cylinders, in the article, they said in a joking way, that if someone even tried to tow it away, all you would have to do is follow the skid marks.

Wow Glen, I think I would install a webcam and wait to catch that thief or at least some motion lights.
The thief is probably a regular at a pawn shop or e-bay. If the laptop was fairly new and you still have the S/N call the manufacturer and report it stolen. Then if someone calls in for warranty repair they will get it. Have seen it happen a couple of times.

Those flashy alarms with the sirens and voices and lights will only serve to lighten your wallet. Even when triggered most people ignore them anyway. The best way to reduce theft is to keep your car locked at all times. You can also install an ignition "kill" switch, which is very cheap, easy, and effective. Window stickers warning of an anti-theft system are not a bad idea either. Like has been said before, if they want it bad enough, nothing will stop them.

    Sam :)
